Hello ladies, gentlemen and my non-binary friends! I hope you are all having a very nice day, week, and even a month!
So, I can almost hear you asking, what this post will be about.
Today's post, my friends, is about a topic that I believe, you will love and enjoy as ELT students, or maybe even graduates!
We are talking about 21st century learning, and the integration of technology in it!
So let's get into it!
First of all, let's answer the question of "What is 21st century learning, and what is the difference?"
The reason why we discuss 21st century learning on its own is because it has a lot of different aspects than other centuries. The most obvious one is that learning in 21st century is student-centered, which means the student has a more active role in their classes.
Teachers in the classrooms only act as guides. They don't give the students the answer, nor do they give them one specific way to follow. They give the basic information and expect students to analyze, criticize and understand that information on their own. Also, in 21st century, learning has a wider meaning than just knowing how to write and read. It prepares and expects the students to develop skills that will help them in their future lifes.
A widely discussed question about this topic is why it is important that we integrate technology into this new century of learning? First of all, let me start by saying that it is not an only-pros kind of option. Just like everything else, it has its positive sides and its negative sides.
In my opinion, even though technology obviously has its negative sides, in this year and age, there is no way to escape from it. So, while accepting the fact that it's not the whole package, let's discuss why I think it is important to include technology in education.
First and foremost, technology enables a whole different kinds of research resources for students. Unlike previous years, students don't have to spend hours and hours only to find a short passage about a topic in a book at a library. They can easily find what they are looking for on the internet, and they can even compare the things that they have found. In fact, finding and comparing various information helps them develop their critical thinking skills.
Another important point for me is that using technology in classrooms enables students to develop creativity. The internet has many sources, in which students can have a lot of different ways to create the content they want. They can search and find the best options to present their ideas in the best way. They can use different websites to create blog posts, which is what I am doing obviously, they can use different websites for podcasts and content writing, etc.
Anyways, my friends! These were all the points that I thought to make today. What do you think about the idea of technology in 21st century learning? Let me know in the comments down below and let's chat!
