Welcome back! For our first task, we were assigned to create a material based on corpus and I worked with a friend of mine, Bora. You can also check out his blog from here.
In this post, I will walk you through the process, our intended audience and potential challenges that may arise in the content we created.
We chose SKELL for corpus because we think it is more user-friendly and we believe it will be more suitable for our audience, which is high school students.
Objective
My students will be able to use "how many" and "how much" in sentences correctly.
The Process
Initially, we didn't really understand what a "corpus" was or how we were supposed to use it. But thankfully, our instructor helped us out by showing us examples and also giving us feedback to make it better.
The first thing we had to do was look at the coursebook our instructor gave us and decide on a topic for our material. The topic we chose was "How Many?/How Much?".
Later, we chose which corpus we should use and we ended up choosing SKELL.
I started to create the design for our material on Canva and Bora started to prepare some of the activities we used. After having somewhat of a plan we worked together to put everything together. We planned to give real-life contexts that our students would be interested in, so the topic we chose was music/concerts.
Target Audience
Our material is designed for 9th grade Turkish high school students. The general level of these students is intermediate, and we tried our best to create a material that was suitable to them. The students are presumed to already know the differences between "how many" and "how much".
Material's Key Focus
The main goal of the material is to show the learners the distinctions between "how many" and "how much", and to help them learn on their own with the use of corpus.
Potential Issues
The potential issue could be the students' access to digital devices/ internet.
And that is all, my dear friends! Don't forget to check our material here.
